Navy seizes illegal nets worth Tk 1.6cr in Barguna, Bhola

BARGUNA, Aug 19, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Navy in joint drives yesterday (August 18) seized illegal fishing nets worth over Taka 1.6 crore from Patharghata upazila of Barguna and Monpura upazila of Bhola.

According to an ISPR release issued today, the Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard conducted a joint operation in different areas of Patharghata upazila of Barguna district and seized 80,000 metres of illegal nets worth over Taka 1.2 crore.

On the same day, the Navy, along with local police, carried out a drive in Janatar Bazar and a nearby abandoned ice factory area in Monpura upazila of Bhola district. During the drive, the joint force seized a total of 1.15 lakh metres of illegal current nets worth approximately Taka 40.5 lakh. 

The seized nets were destroyed in presence of local police, upazila fisheries officers and public representatives, the release added.

The ISPR release further added the Navy has been conducting regular operations in coastal areas to protect fishery resources, prevent illegal activities and ensure sustainable fishing.

It said as per the government's directives, the Navy will continue such operations and patrols to maintain law and order in the coastal and maritime border areas.
