IAB for legal recognition of July charter before elections

DHAKA, Aug 19, 2025 (BSS) - The Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) has reiterated its demand for legal recognition of the ‘July Charter’ and holding the upcoming general elections under the Proportional Representation (PR) system.
 
IAB Chief Mufti Rezaul Karim, Charmonai Pir reiterated the demand while addressing a protest rally at Baitul Mukarram North Gate here this afternoon as the chief guest.
 
He said, “When the country was plagued by injustice, murder, corruption and discrimination, country’s students-people made their supreme sacrifices for the country . . .If any group exerts pressure and forces to the chief adviser to announce elections before reforms, we won’t allow to be held the polls without reforms.”
 
Referring to the past 54 years, where peace has not come under the existing electoral system, the Charmonai Pir said on the contrary, the influence of black money, corruption and terrorism have increased alarmingly. 
 
Many countries in the world have overcome this crisis through the PR electoral system, which has now become the demand of the time to be introduced in Bangladesh, he mentioned.
 
Party’s Joint Secretary General and Dhaka City (North) President Principal Hafez Maulana Sheikh Fazle Bari Masud presided over the rally while IAB Secretary General Principal Hafez Maulana Yunus Ahmad was present as the he special guest.
 
Among others party Presidium Member Principal Maulana Syed Mosaddek Billah Al-Madani, Prof Ashraf Ali Akon, Prof Mahbubur Rahman, Spokesperson Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman, Joint Secretary General Maulana Imtiaz Alam and Assistant Secretary General Maulana Ahmed Abdul Qayyum also spoke on the occasion.
 
As the rally over, a mass procession led by Pir Saheb Charmonai was brought out from Baitul Mukarram that paraded different city streets including Paltan Intersection and Bijaynagar areas.
