Drug peddler held in city with 4,000 Yaba tablets

DHAKA, Aug 20, 2025 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested a drug peddler and recovered 4,000 Yaba tablets from his possession in the Wari area of the capital last night.

The arrestee was identified as Md Tarek, 21, according to a press release signed by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of DMP.

Acting on a tip-off, the Illegal Weapons Recovery and Narcotics Control Team of the DB's Gulshan division conducted a raid in front of Kaptan Bazar Complex Bhaban-2 in Nababpur under Wari Police Station at around 11 pm and arrested the drug peddler along with the Yaba consignment, the release said.

The arrestee confessed that the tablets were usually brought to Dhaka after being purchased at a cheaper rate in Cox's Bazar and sold to other drug peddlers in the city at higher rates. Legal proceedings are underway in this regard, the release added.
