Brahmanbaria AL leader sent to jail in anti-terrorism case

DHAKA, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent to jail former joint 
secretary and Bancharampur upazila Awami League president Sirazul Islam in a 
case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jakir Hossain passed the order 
as police produced Sirazul, 84, before the court and pleaded to keep him in 
jail till the end of investigation in the case.

Police arrested Sirazul Islam from his Tejgaon Tejkunipara residence on 
August 25 last.

According to the case documents, a group of people including 50-60 activists 
of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) attempted to hold an anti-
government rally and chanted slogans in the capital's Gulistan area on March 
26, 2025.

Later, police filed the case with Paltan Police Station in this connection.
