NAOGAON, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced five people to life imprisonment for killing an autorickshaw driver in Sadar upazila in 2019.

The court also fined them Taka 5,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in jail. 

Additional District and Sessions Judge Md. Kaisarul Islam delivered the verdict at noon in the presence of four convicts, said Additional Public Prosecutor of the court (APP) Munsur Ali.

The convicts are Jewel Zaher Ali (absconding), son of Shukur Ali of Mandalpara area, Ratan Mullah, son of Abdul Sattar, a resident of Chalkprosad village in Sadar upazila, Suruj Mia, son of Hasan Mia of Paba Masjid area of Uttarpara, Saiful Islam, son of Bedarul Islam, Abdur Rashid, son of late Shahjahan in Khanpur area under Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura district.

According to the prosecution, on November 6, 2019, autorickshaw driver Bhajan Debnath Sajal left his house with his rickshaw and did not return home. The next day, police recovered his body from Hansaigari Gota Beel of Naogaon Sadar upazila.

His father Bhupendrah Debnat filed a murder case with Naogaon Sadar Police Station in this connection.

The judge, after examining 13 witnesses and evidence, found them guilty and handed down the punishment.
