TCC meeting for amending labour law held

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS)- The Tripartite Consulting Council (TCC), a committee of the representatives from workers, employers and government, held a meeting yesterday for amending the Labour Law-2006, a PID hand out today said.

The meeting reviewed the last one year activities of the council and decided to amend the Labour Law-2006 on the basis of the opinion of all stake holders.

Adviser for Labour and Employment and Shipping Ministries Brigadier General (Rtd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain chaired te meeting held at a city hotel.

Senior Secretary of the Women and Children Affairs Ministry, Secretary of the Labour and Employment Ministry, Secretary of the Chief Adviser’s Office, Executive Director of Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS), chief of Labour Reforms Commission, president of Bangladesh Employers Federation and members of the TCC attended the meeting.

Senior officials from the US Embassy, Canadian High Commission, European Union and International Labour Organization (ILO) were present as special observers. 

Special envoy to the chief adviser on international affairs Lutfe Siddiqui attended the meeting as special guest.
Adviser Sakhawat Hossain said the labour law would be updated on the basis of the advices of the owners and workers. This amendment would be done to make the law as one of international standard, he said.

The representatives from the owners and workers pointed out their opinion in the meeting and emphasized on the importance for enacting a coordinated and internally standard labour law. They also stressed the need for amending the law as soon as possible.

They hoped that the amendment would accelerate the country’s labour market and help develop the relation between the owners and workers.
