Sirajganj dwellers want restoration of previous seat

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS) - Residents of Sirajganj district today demanded the restoration of their previous seven constituencies in the Jatiya Sangsad elections, as it was in 2001.

Abdul Mannan, a representative of Sirajganj district who joined the Election Commission's hearing at its auditorium, said Sirajganj had seven parliamentary seats until 2001.

"In 2008, the EC reduced one seat and brought the number down to six. Our demand is to restore the seventh seat, which was Sirajganj-6, comprising four unions in the eastern region of Chauhali upazila and Shahjadpur upazila," he said.

Meanwhile, Pabna district representative Barrister Nazibur Rahman Momen demanded a rearrangement of the district's parliamentary constituency boundaries.

He proposed keeping only Sathia upazila in Pabna-1 constituency, while placing Bera and Sujanagar upazilas under constituency-2.
