Cocaine worth Tk 130 crore seized, foreigner taken on five day remand

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2025(BSS) - A court here today granted five days police remand to a citizen of Guyana in connection with the seizure of 8.5 kg of cocaine worth about Taka 130 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here.

A team of police produced SM Karen Petula Stuffle, a Guyana national, before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) with a prayer for granting his 10 days remand. 

After hearing the argument of the prosecution side, Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akhter, on behalf of the CMM, granted her five-day remand.

The Customs intelligence officials, acting on secret information on Monday night detained Karen Petula at the airport who landed in Dhaka from Doha by a Quarter Airways flight at about 2.30am. 

The passenger was checked at the green channel of the airport and found three plastic bags in her luggage. They later seized 22 pieces of egg like substances from a Jar from her luggage. 

These substances were later detected as cocaine weighing over 8.5 kg worth about Taka 130 crore.                    

A case was filed with Dhaka Airport Thana under drugs control act in this connection.
