CHATTOGRAM, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS) - City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain announced plans to transform the Trenching Grounds (TGs) of Bayezid and Halishahar into modern landfills gradually.

This initiative aims to modernize waste management in the city and make it more environmentally friendly.

Dr. Shahdat Hossain emphasized that this transformation will help reduce environmental pollution and also create opportunities for generating electricity and fuel from waste using advanced technology.

The mayor made the remarks during a visit by a delegation of South Korean experts to the Halishahar trenching ground. The delegation included Major Nasim, Advocate Taranum Binte Nasim, Chongwang Park, Nofil Tamim Park, Ahn Sunggeun, Han Dong Gu, Lee Sang Hoon, and Jung Hwan.

The delegation suggested a circular economy pilot project for the City Corporation's plan to transform the Halishahar and Bayezid trenching grounds into modern landfills. This project aims to create a sustainable landfill reclamation solution based on the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) principle.

Mayor Dr. Shahadat encouraged the South Korean delegation to continue their long-term cooperation in Chattogram's development. He emphasized the city's transformation into a sustainable and modern urban center, leveraging the expertise and technology of developed nations.

The Chief Executive Officer of CCC, Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam, and Chief Cleaning Officer Commander Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury were also present at the meeting.
