DHAKA, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said democratization in mere politics is not enough, it is also needed in the economy. 

"Democratization in politics alone is insufficient; if there is no democratization in the economy, no political system will work, nor will democracy," he said while speaking as the chief guest at World Vision's 'Fourth Children and Youth Assembly' in Gulshan here. 

Top officials of World Vision were also present at the event.

Emphasizing the need to ensure opportunities for everyone, Khasru said, "It's unacceptable for the politics and economy of Bangladesh to remain in the hands of a select few. If the public isn't a stakeholder in the country's development, I don't consider that true development. We must ensure opportunities for all."

The senior BNP leader also mentioned the need for creating wealth by increasing skills. "I've traveled to many countries. I haven't seen people as talented as our young men and women anywhere else. If wealth is created, we all will be a part of it."

He added that any political party that fails to understand the shift in public mindset and the new expectations that have emerged since Sheikh Hasina's departure will have no future. 

He stressed that this new sense of hope must be leveraged by giving everyone the opportunity to participate in politics and in economy.

Addressing the youth, Khasru said, "The country has a shortage of skilled people. Along with your studies, you must master a skill. Bangladesh hasn't been able to advance in the race for opportunity because of a lack of skill development. You need to increase your skills alongside your education."

The BNP standing committee member pointed out that Bangladesh has a deficit of skilled individuals, saying, "We are only getting BA and MA degrees. Doctors and engineers are being produced, but we are falling behind in skill development. We have a large youth population. If we can utilize this, it will be transformed into an asset. For this, skill development must be pursued alongside academics."
