RAJSHAHI, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) - The election to the Rajshahi University Central Students Union (RUCSU), Hall Council, and Students' Representative to the Senate has been rescheduled once again - now set to be held on September 25, 2025.

The decision came just nine hours after an earlier schedule was announced for September 28, as it coincided with the beginning of Durga Puja.

Chief Election Commissioner Prof Dr F Nazrul Islam confirmed the new date in a press release issued last night following an emergency meeting of the RUCSU Election Commission.

As per the new schedule, distribution of nomination papers will continue from August 24 to 31, while submission will be accepted between September 1 and 7.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on September 8 and 9, and the preliminary list of candidates will be published on September 11.

Objections can be submitted and settled on September 14, while September 15 has been set as the last date for withdrawal of candidature. The final list of candidates will be published on September 16.

Polling will be held on September 25 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm without interruption at the university's administrative building. Counting of votes and declaration of results will be done on the same day.

Earlier, on August 19, the university authorities published the final voter list for the election. A total of 25,152 students, including 15,468 female students, have been listed as eligible voters.

After a 35-year gap, students of Rajshahi University are poised to regain their voting rights through this long-awaited RUCSU election. The last such election was held during the 1989-90 academic year.

Preparations are in full swing to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the election.

According to the RUCSU constitution, student union elections are supposed to be held annually, but the process remained suspended for decades due to various reasons.
