DINAJPUR, March 19, 2026 (BSS) - The Gor-e Shahid Boro Maidan in Dinajpur, known as one of the largest Eidgahs in Asia, has been fully prepared for the Eid-ul-Fitr congregation.
Hundreds of thousands of people from different parts of the country gather at the historic Eidgah ground in Dinajpur to offer Eid prayers.
It has earned a reputation for hosting the country's largest Eid congregation. A friendly and harmonious atmosphere is created here around the Eid prayer.
This year, the Eid congregation will be held at 9am. The overall supervision is being carried out by the district administration, while the police are responsible for security, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Riaz Uddin.
It is known that construction of the Eidgah minaret began in 2015. Before that, Eid prayers were held here on a smaller scale. After the construction of the minaret in 2017, the first large-scale congregation was held. Since then, the Dinajpur Gor-e Shahid Boro Maidan has gained recognition as one of the largest Eidgahs in the country and Asia. The Eidgah ground covers an area of 22.99 acres.
The beautifully designed minaret, built on the western side of the Eidgah field with a mix of red, brown, and white colors, easily attracts everyone's attention.
According to the district administration, preparations have been made to accommodate the maximum number of devotees this year as well. The ground is marked with lime lines for 192 rows from east to west measuring 1,100 feet, and from north to south measuring 916 feet on the western side and 1,030 feet on the eastern side. Each row can accommodate 500 to 600 devotees.
If the ground is fully filled, more than one lakh (100,000) devotees will be able to offer Eid prayers together.
On Thursday morning (March 19), a visit to the field showed more than 150 workers cleaning and washing the minaret and maintaining the field. There are 17 entry gates around the field, along with three watch towers and ongoing parking arrangements. Behind the minaret, workers are cleaning the ablution area and toilets in the southeast corner.
Locals say that since the partition of the country in 1947, Eid prayers have been held here on a small scale. Eidgah minaret was built in Mughal architectural style.
The Eidgah minaret has 52 domes, with two main towers on both ends standing 60 feet high, while the middle ones are 50 feet high. The tiled mihrab is 47 feet high and features 32 arches. Each dome is fitted with electric lights.
After inspecting the field, Additional Deputy Commissioner Riaz Uddin said that Gor-e Shahid Maidan is ready for Eid prayers. "We have already held several meetings. We hope that this year's Eid-ul-Fitr prayer will take place with the highest attendance."
Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Md. Zedan Al Musa said about 350 police and Ansar members will be deployed.
