
DHAKA, March 31, 2026 (BSS) - Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury today inaugurated a project for conservation and restoration of the Mughal architectural heritage site Musa Khan Mosque on the Curzon Hall premises of Dhaka University (DU).
The inauguration took place at an event titled “Raised Platform Mughal Musa Khan Mosque Restoration and Preservation.”
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the mosque, built on an elevated platform, is a unique example of glorious Mughal architecture.
He expressed his hope that the project would help to restore the structure to its original form while preserving its historical authenticity.
He also noted that the initiative would play a significant role in promoting cultural tourism, expanding research opportunities and inspiring younger generations to take interest in preserving the national heritage. The project, he added, could serve as a successful model for future conservation efforts.
Among others, Brent T. Christensen, the United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, attended the function as a special guest.
The minister thanked the ambassador for his valuable support and cooperation, emphasizing that collective efforts and mutual goodwill are essential for making the world a better place.
The project will be implemented by the Department of Archaeology with the funding from the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr ABM Obaidul Islam, Director General of the Department of Archaeology Sabina Alam, along with officials from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the US Embassy, attended the programme.
