Large quantity of illegally stored oil seized in Dinajpur, one jailed

DINAJPUR, March 31, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court in Dinajpur conducted multiple raids on Tuesday, seizing a large amount of illegally stored fuel and imposing fines on offenders.

Additional District Magistrate Nur-A Alam Siddiqui confirmed that 1,671 liters of diesel were confiscated from a shop named Salam Vulcanizing at Azad More in Ghoraghat upazila around 1 pm. The diesel was found stored in several plastic drums. Following the seizure, the fuel was sold at the government-determined market price. 

The initiative is part of a nationwide crackdown to prevent illegal hoarding amid the global fuel crisis. Police and fire service personnel, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rubana Tanjin, assisted in the operation.

Earlier, at 12 noon, a house in Dhangao Bazar of Birganj upazila was found storing 350 liters of diesel and 30 liters of octane illegally. Executive Magistrate Suma Khatun sentenced the house owner, Paritosh Roy, 38, son of Jagadish Roy, to seven days in prison and imposed a fine of Taka 5,000 for selling the fuel at inflated prices. The confiscated fuel will be sold at government prices, with proceeds deposited in the treasury.

Later, at 2 pm, a raid led by Executive Magistrate Ayan Farhan Shams was conducted at a grocery shop in Goaldihi Bhullardanga Bazar of Khansama upazila, where105 liters of petrol was seized. The shop owner, Russell Ahmed, fled prior to the raid. The recovered petrol was sold at a fixed price, and the proceeds were deposited in the government treasury.

The authorities emphasized that these drives are part of an intensified effort to curb illegal fuel hoarding and ensure fair pricing for consumers.
