Two held with 171,200 yaba tablets in Cox's Bazar

DHAKA, Apr 8, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two suspected drug traffickers along with 171,200 pieces of yaba tablets during a drive at the Shilkhali checkpoint under the Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB).

According to a BGB press release, the arrest took place on Tuesday evening when a fish-laden mini pickup traveling from Teknaf to Cox's Bazar was stopped at the temporary Shilkhali checkpoint for routine inspection. 

During the search, BGB personnel discovered 20 packages hidden inside drums of fish. 

The packages, wrapped with black and khaki-colored adhesive tape, contained a total of 171,200 yaba tablets.

The arrested individuals were identified as Md Firoz , 35, son of the late Montaz from Notun Pollan Para, Ward No. 4 in Teknaf, and Md Faisal ,20, son of Abdul Hamid from Naitong Para village.

The pickup driver, Firoz, and his helper, Faisal, were detained on the spot. 

The vehicle used for smuggling was also seized.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed that the yaba tablets were collected from Lama Bazar in Teknaf and were being transported to Jatrabari in Dhaka for delivery.

Legal proceedings against the detainees individuals are currently underway at Teknaf Model Police Station.
