DMP holds security coordination meeting for New Zealand cricket team’s Bangladesh tour

DHAKA, Apr 9, 2026 (BSS) - Ahead of the upcoming visit of the New Zealand national cricket team to Bangladesh on April 13, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) held a coordination meeting to ensure comprehensive security and traffic management during the tour.

The meeting was held this morning at the DMP Headquarters conference room and was chaired by the Acting Commissioner of DMP, Md. Sarwar.

In his speech, the DMP Acting Commissioner stated that adequate security measures will be taken at all important locations, including match venues, practice grounds, accommodation sites, and travel routes. 

Alongside uniformed police, plainclothes officers will also be deployed. 

Specialized units such as SWAT, Bomb Disposal Unit, Dog Squad, and Crime Scene Team will remain on standby at all times.

He expressed hope that with the cooperation of all respective stakeholders, the international match will be conducted smoothly and successfully.

Representatives from the armed forces, various intelligence agencies, specialized police units, and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), along with officials from the Directorate General of Health Services, Dhaka North City Corporation, Fire Service and Civil Defence, DPDC, WASA, and other government and private service organizations, attended the meeting.

At the beginning of the session, Joint Police Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented the overall security plan through a PowerPoint presentation. 

This was followed by an open discussion where representatives from various organisations shared their views and recommendations.

Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S. M. Nazrul Islam along with other senior DMP officers and representatives from relevant agencies, were also present at the meeting.
