
KHULNA, April 30, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today said many urban problems can be addressed through effective coordination among non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in the city.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a meeting reviewing the progress of World Vision Bangladesh's activities in the Khulna metropolitan area at the Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of the KCC Bhaban.
Manju said people from nearly 42 districts reside in the port and industrial city of Khulna, where a significant portion of the population belongs to low-income groups. He said the country's third-largest city is facing various civic problems that require long-term solutions.
World Vision Bangladesh organised the meeting under its Khulna Urban Area Programme and Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Project. The project aims to improve the living standards of poor, underprivileged and vulnerable children, families and communities through health, education and child protection initiatives.
Speakers at the meeting expressed satisfaction over the progress of the project and stressed the importance of including children in personal hygiene education, encouraging proper waste disposal practices and ensuring safe drinking water facilities in low-income settlements.
They also called for close monitoring to ensure that no child is left out of the ongoing measles-rubella vaccination campaign.
The speakers further proposed inclusion of wheelchairs for elderly people and white canes for visually impaired persons under the project activities.
World Vision Khulna Senior Manager Liton Mondal presided over the meeting.
Among others, KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Chief Planning Officer Abir Ul Jabbar, Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al-Imran, Administrative Officer Molla Maruf Rashid, World Vision Bangladesh Central Manager (Health, Nutrition and WASH) Dr Santosh Kumar Dutta and Urban Livelihood Manager Md Ruhul Amin Sarker addressed the function.
Area Programme Manager Surabhi Biswas and Women Economic Empowerment Project Officer Abeda Sultana delivered the welcome speeches.
