
JASHORE, April 30, 2026 (BSS) - A case has been filed here against a former state minister and five former Members of Parliament, along with leaders and activists of the banned Awami League.
A total of 40 individuals have been named in the case, along with 80-100 unidentified accused.
Sub-Inspector Ashraf Uddin of Jashore Kotwali Police Station filed the case today under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Among the accused are former Member of Parliament for Jashore-6 and General Secretary of the district Awami League Shaheen Chakladar, former MP of Jashore-4 Ranjit Kumar Roy, former MP of Jashore-5 and former State Minister Swapan Bhattacharya, former MP of Jashore-2 Monirul Islam, former MP of Jashore-3 Kazi Nabil Ahmed, and former MP of Jashore-5 Yakub Ali.
Also named are former Chairman of Sadar Upazila Touhidul Islam Fontu Chakladar, former Mayor of Jashore Municipality and General Secretary of the banned district Jubo League Zahidul Islam Rintu Chakladar, Rajib Roy (son of Ranjit Roy), and Shubho Bhattacharya (son of Swapan Bhattacharya ), among others.
According to the complaint filed by SI Ashraf Uddin, around 7:30 pm on April 28, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations-declared banned through a government gazette-gathered on Aziz City Road beside the Muktijoddha Complex in the district town.
At that time, 80 to 100 activists chanted various anti-government slogans.
Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene, but the accused fled. The first 13 accused are described as key figures and financiers of the banned organization, while the remaining 27 are identified as members involved in terrorism and various criminal activities.
The complaint further alleged that they continue to engage in subversive and anti-state conspiracies. The case has been filed under provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Meanwhile, 14 individuals have been arrested in separate drives conducted across different areas of the town on April 29 and 30 for organizing protest marches under the banner of Jubo League. They have already been sent to jail through a court order today.
