
DHAKA, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested eight alleged members of a robbery gang in connection with the armed robbery of Tk 38 lakh in Dhaka's Dhanmondi area, recovering a firearm, ammunition and Tk 575,350 of the stolen money.
Dhanmondi Model Police Station of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) made the arrests.
Joint Commissioner (Crime) of DMP Md Faruk Hossain made the disclosure today at a press briefing at DMP Media Centre on Mintoo Road in the capital.
The arrested suspects were identified as Tanvir Abedin alias Jui, 41, Mojibur Rahman, 60, Zakir Hossain alias Captain Zakir, 60, Solaiman Mridha, 55, Mohammad Kabir Hossain, 50, Abul Kalam Azad, 50, Zakaria Hossain alias Lenin, 40, and Sajal Chowdhury, 31.
According to police, a group of 8-10 armed robbers robbed Khorshed Alam, 50, of Tk 38 lakh at gunpoint in front of Dingi Restaurant on Road 12/A in Dhanmondi at around 2:10 p.m. on Aug. 30.
Police and local residents caught Tanvir and Mojibur as the robbers fled the scene.
A locally made revolver and four rounds of ammunition were recovered from them.
Based on information provided by Mojibur, police later arrested Zakir in the Dakshinkhan area.
Using information obtained from the suspects and technology-assisted investigation, police subsequently conducted raids in different parts of the country and arrested the remaining five suspects.
Police recovered Tk 345,350 from Zakaria and Tk 230,000 from Sajal, bringing the total amount recovered to Tk 575,350.
Police said efforts were continuing to arrest other identified and unidentified members of the gang and recover the remaining stolen money.
A robbery case and an arms case have been filed with Dhanmondi Model Police Station.
