Zarif, Sumaiya emerge champion

DHAKA, Feb 28, 2025 (BSS)- Zarif Abrar of Cantonment Officers Tennis Club and 
Sumaiya Akter of Jhalokathi Tennis Club emerged men's and women's singles 
champion respectively in the National Tennis competition that concluded at 
national tennis complex in the city's Ramna on Friday. 

In the men's singles final, Zarif beat Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan's 
(BKSP) Mahad Bin Malek 6-1, 6-3 while in the women's singles final, Sumaiya 
Akhtar defeated BKSP's Subarna Khatun 6-0, 6-4 to become the champion.

In the men's doubles final, Md Rustam Ali and Milon Hossain pair of American 
Club won the men's doubles title by defeating Zarif Abrar and Md Sayem pair 
of 7-6, 6-4.

In women's doubles final, BKSP's Subarna Khatun and Jannatun Ferdous pair won 
the doubles title beating Sumaiya Akter and Sushmita Sen pair of Jhalokathi 
Tennis Club 5-7, 7-5, 10-7.

Bangladesh Tennis Federation and Dhaka Bank Ltd chairman Abdul Hai Sarkar was 
the chief guest in the final and distributed the prizes among the winning 
players.

Former national singles and doubles champion Mahtabur Rahman (Maruf) was 
present as special guest in the prize distribution ceremony.

Bangladesh Tennis Federation (BTF) vice presidents Ashrafuzzaman Khan (Putan) 
and Md Salim, its general secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed (Karen), treasurer MA 
Jinnah, tournament director Shafiqul Islam Sarkar (Sohail) along with members 
of BTF executive committee also present on the occasion.

The competition carries a total of prize money Taka 3, 35 lakh in various 
events. Trophy and certificate will be also given to the winning players.
