Bangla Discipline retains Shahid Mir Mugdho Inter-Discipline football title at KU

KHULNA, Aug 25, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangla Discipline of Khulna University (KU) has clinched the Shahid Mir Mugdho Inter-Discipline Football Championship for the second consecutive year, defeating Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Discipline 4-0 in the final on Monday afternoon.

The much-anticipated final kicked off at 3.30 pm on the KU ground in front of the under-construction 4th academic building. Abir and Asad each netted two goals, sealing Bangla’s emphatic victory.

Abir was named Man of the match in the Final for his stellar performance. CSE’s Pranto Mukherjee received the Player of the Tournament award, while Abir and Asad jointly bagged the Top Scorer title. CSE’s Aman Ullah was adjudged Best Goalkeeper and Bangla’s Ashiq was declared Promising Player.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim distributed prizes among the winners as chief guest during the prize giving ceremony.  

“Alongside academic activities, such co-curricular programmes keep KU lively. Hosting this tournament in the name of Shahid Mir Mugdho for the second time gives us hope and pride,” he said, congratulating both teams and thanking the organizers.

Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Harunur Rashid Khan, addressing as special guest, highlighted the importance of sports in students’ overall development.

“Shahid Mir Mugdho is a pride of Khulna University and Bangladesh. This tournament will inspire students to honor his memory,” he noted.

The Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor handed over trophies to the captains of the champion and runner-up teams.
 
Acting Registrar and Director of the Physical Education Prof. Dr. S. M. Mahbubur Rahman presided over the event while Director of Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadat, addressed as special guest.

Tournament Convenor Prof. Dr. Md. Nabiul Islam Khan delivered the welcome speech while Deputy Director Md. Moinul Hossain conducted the ceremony.

The final and prize-giving ceremony drew participation from faculty members, officials, staff, and a large number of students.
