NARAYANGANJ, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS)- Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi has become a familiar face in the country's domestic cricket and the talented cricketer aims to represent the national cricket team in the future.

Rabbi’s passion in cricket grew up at the age of only six years, following the footprint of his elder brother Mehedi, who was also a cricketer.

In his childhood, Rabbi used to go to the field with his brother. It was the beginning for him in the cricket. After that, Rabbi never looked back.

The promising cricketer, hailed from Narayanganj district, has now become the member of the Bangladesh 'A' team after passing the age-level stage.

He made his international debut in the Top End T20 series held in Australia. Known as a spinning all-rounder in batting and bowling, Rabbi led the team in the 2023 Youth Asia Cup.

Under the leadership of Rabbi, Bangladesh had the taste of becoming the Youth Asia Cup champions for the first time.

In an interview with BSS, Bangladesh's talented cricketer Rabbir spoke about his inspiration in his cricket journey.

He said: "My journey in cricket started after following my elder brother. We are three brothers, I am the youngest. I used to go to the field with my elder brother and watch cricket. In my childhood, I also used to play football and badminton along with cricket, but those games didn't attract me that much.”

Noticing my interest in cricket, my brother admitted me to the Claymon Cricket Academy in Narayanganj, when I was 12 years old, he added.

Rabbi said his passion for cricket developed while practicing cricket with his elder brother. From that time on, his brother would take him to practice regularly.

But just as Rabbi started pursuing his dream of playing cricket, he faced the harsh reality of his life. In 2020, his father, Motayer Rahman Raju, the sole breadwinner of the family, passed away.

Rabbi said after his father's death, at one stage he decided to quit sports and started a career in order to fulfill his family responsibilities, but his older brothers didn't let him do that rather he was asked by his brother to focus more on the field of play.

Rabbi, the second year student of Sonargaon College, said: “I would never have come this far without the inspiration of my elder brother.”

Expressing his desire to play for the national team, cricketer Rabbi said: “My family has suffered a lot for me. I want to fulfill their dream …… I want to represent the national cricket team and play for the country.”

Referring to his inspiration, Rabbi said he is fan of all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. “I grew up watching his game. Shakib Bhai is my idol in the game of cricket.”

Jahangir Alam, the batting coach of the U-15 team, said Rabbi was admitted to the Clemons Cricket Academy at a young age. He has always performed well in cricket. He is also a hard-working cricketer.

The coach also hoped that Rabbi would be able to play for the national team in the near future.
