CWAB election to be held for president post only

DHAKA, Aug 29, 2025 (BSS)—The Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) will see election for president post only after 10 members for various posts were elected unopposed.

Current cricketer Mohammad Mithun and former cricketer Selim Shahed who is the incumbent ad-hoc committee convener will contest for the president post in the election to be held on September 4.

Former national opener Shahriar Hossain Bidyut and current wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan submitted nomination for senior vice-president and vice-president posts respectively while the eight other cricketers Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shamsur Rahman Shuvo, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rumana Ahmed, Khaled Mashud Pilot, Imrul Kayes, Irfan Sukkur, Akbar Ali filed for executive members.

There will be no more posts like general secretary in this year's CWAB elections. 

The election will continue from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on September 4. BCB Director Iftekhar Rahman Mithu will serve as the Chief Election Commissioner. Former captain Habibul Bashar Sumon and Nasir Ahmed Nasu are the other two members of the election commission. 

A voter list of 212 has been prepared, and the possibility of arranging e-voting is being explored.

“We hope that everyone will participate in the election. The voter list has already been prepared, where 212 people have registered. We hope that these 212 voters will attend and vote,” former cricketer of Bangladesh Minhajul Abedin, who held various posts of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) after his retirement said here today.

Currently, the Bangladesh cricketers are in Sylhet to play a T20 series against the Netherlands. The series will end on September 3 and so they can exercise their votes.
