DHAKA, Aug 29, 2025 (BSS)— Bangladesh’s inform middle order batter Shamim Patwari is unlikely to feature in the three-match T20 International series opening game against the Netherlands to be held tomorrow (Saturday) at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Head coach Phil Simmons informed that the batter who made valuable contributions in the past two T20 series of Bangladesh continues to recover from his injury.

Opener Parvez Hossain Emon also sustained an injury but he passed the fitness, Simmons added.

“Patwari (Shamim), the last five or six days, he's been very good. He's done a lot. He's done everything we did today. So, he's back up to fitness,” Simmons told the reporters in Sylhet today.

“Emon hurt his shoulder but he's been fine. He did everything today. He's passed fit. So, they're both fit to play, but I think that Patwari is going to need a few more days.”

Bangladesh did practice to improve the power-hitting skill under the guidance of famous power-hitting coach Julian Wood ahead of the series.

Simmons said the outcome will be understood during the series against the Netherlands.

“As we go along, we'll see what has improved. There are some players that have natural power, and there are some that you have to train,” he said. “So, as we go along, we'll see what Julian has added to most of the players.”

Bangladesh won the past two T20 series against Sri Lanka at away and Pakistan at home, something what bolstered their confidence. Simmons, however, urged the consistency regardless of the opponent.

“For me, anytime you play international cricket, it's an ideal situation because you have to maintain a certain standard. If we play against teams higher up, we still have to play at a certain level for us to win the series,” he said.

“So, for us, it's about maintaining and improving what we've done in Sri Lanka. And I don't see it as who is in front of us. It's more about how we play and how we continue to improve,” he added.
