DHAKA, Sept 2, 2025 (BSS) - The 49th National 'B' Chess Championship will begin at the Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) sports hall on Friday (September 5).

Players who secured 5th to 14th places in the 48th National Chess Championship last year, and those having a standard rating of 2100 and above, will take part in the competition. 

In addition, fifteen players from Dhaka Zone-1, five from Chattogram Zone-2, four each from Khulna and Barisal Zone-3, Rajshahi and Rangpur Zone-4, and three from Sylhet and Mymensingh Zone-5 will participate. The national women's champion, women's international masters, national junior (under-20) champion, and girls' under-20 champion will also join the event organized by the BCF.

The top eight players from this tournament will qualify for the final phase of the 49th National Chess Championship.

Four of the country's grandmasters-Niaz Murshed, Reefat Bin Sattar, Molla Abdullah Al Rakib and Enamul Hossain Rajib-along with last year's champion International Master Manon Reja Neer and runner-up International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman, have already been invited to compete in the final round of the national chess tournament.
