DHAKA, Sept 9, 2025 (BSS) — Bangladesh captain Liton Das insisted that his side was not fazed by their past record in Asia Cup as they felt that they are well equipped to overcome any kind of challenges.

Bangladesh played three Asia Cup finals in the past and ended up being runners-up—firstly in 2012 when they came agonizingly close but eventually lost to Pakistan by two runs.

In 2016 and 2018, they lost the final to India. Liton Das hammered a scintillating century in 2018 final but that mattered little.

“We haven't tasted the championship yet - but that is history. And history is made to be broken,” Liton said during a captains’ press conference of Asia Cup today in Dubai.

“We will try to play good cricket. There will be many challenges here, it will not be that easy. We will try to improve as a team,” he said.

However, not many people bet on Liton’s side despite their blazing records in T20 format of late.

Bangladesh won three consecutive series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Netherlands before coming to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). While that is a big motivation for Liton, some former captains of Bangladesh’s opponents ruled out their chance to play the final.

Cricket commentators like Harsha Bhogle and Aakash Chopra had seen Sri Lanka and Afghanistan as the frontrunners from Bangladesh’s group.

But Liton looked to be unfazed as he said they are not here to prove anything to others.

“There’s no sense of urgency. We have been playing very good cricket recently. We have had a long camp,” Liton said, adding that they felt that they were well prepared for the tournament.

“I think we are well prepared for the Asia Cup. The tournament will be very challenging because all teams are well equipped. We are ready to overcome the challenges. It’s sure we will give our 100 percent,” Liton said.

Bangladesh will open their Asia Cup campaign by taking on Hong Kong on Thursday in Abu Dhabi. They will take on Sri Lanka on September 13 and Afghanistan on September 16 at the same venue. Two teams from their group will move to the Super 4 phase.
