NARAIL, April 23, 2026 (BSS) - A bumper production of Boro paddy is expected in the district during the current Rabi season, according to local agricultural officials.

Vast stretches of paddy fields across the district are now turning golden, signaling a promising harvest.

Farmers have already begun harvesting early-planted crops in several areas. As of Thursday, around 8 percent of the total paddy has been harvested, said Nipu Majumdar, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of the District Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).

The DAE reported that Boro paddy has been cultivated on approximately 50,307 hectares of land across three upazilas in the district. Of this, 23,346 hectares are in Narail Sadar, 10,337 hectares in Lohagra and 16,626 hectares in Kalia upazila.

The production target stands at an estimated 230,208 metric tons, slightly exceeding the initial cultivation target of 50,297 hectares.

Farmers are optimistic about the yield. Rifaet Sheikh, a farmer from Raghunathpur village in Kalia upazila, said he cultivated Boro rice on five bighas of land this season and expects a good harvest. He said that there were no shortages of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, or irrigation facilities.

Despite recent intense heat, farmers are actively working in the fields from early morning to harvest ripe paddy. Many are also preparing for threshing and storage.

Muhammad Arifur Rahman, Deputy Director of DAE, said the department has maintained regular communication with farmers, encouraging the use of modern farming techniques. He added that government support, including the provision of seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs, has boosted farmers' interest in Boro cultivation.

"The Agriculture Department has supported farmers at every stage-from planting to harvesting. If favorable weather continues until the crops are safely brought home, we expect a bumper harvest this season," he said.

Officials hope that the successful harvest will bring economic relief and smiles to farmers across the district.
