KHULNA, March 16, 2025 (BSS) – A Khulna court today sentenced two youths to life-term rigorous imprisonment for killing a young man in Fultala upazila on March 25, 2014.
The court also fined them Taka 20,000 each. In default, they will have to serve an additional three years in prison.
Abir Parvez, Khulna District and Sessions Judge, pronounced the verdict, while four others were acquitted as the charges against them could not be proven.
The convicts are Azizul Chowdhury, son of Arif Chowdhury, and Rubel Sarder, son of Azizul Sarder. Both hail from Damodar Southpara under Fultala upazila of the district.
According to the prosecution, the convicts hacked businessman Ekhlas to death near his residence in the early hours of March 25, 2014, following a previous enmity.
Rafiqul Islam, the victim's brother, filed a case with Fultala Police Station the next day, accusing three identified and four to five unidentified persons.
On April 15, 2015, police submitted a charge sheet against seven people, including the two convicted criminals.
Meanwhile, another Khulna court today sentenced two individuals to life-term rigorous imprisonment (RI) for possessing illegal drugs.
The court also fined them Taka 20,000 each. In default, they will have to serve an additional one-year RI.
Khulna District and Sessions Judge Neela Karmokar pronounced the verdict in the absence of the two accused.
The convicts are Sohrab Hossain, son of Kinar Uddin, from Echapur village, and Farid Biswas from Shankarpur village of Sharsha upazila in Jashore.
