Nine shops gutted in Tangail fire

TANGAIL, March 17, 2025 (BSS) - At least nine shops have been gutted in a deadly fire in Ghatail upazila here in the district on Sunday night.

Shop owners claimed the fire incurred a loss of over Tk 50 lakh.

The fire broke out at around 8:00pm in the Garobazar bus stand area of Lakhindar union under Ghatail upazila.

On information, two fire fighting units from the Ghatail and Modhupur fire stations rushed to the scene and brought the flame under control within an hour.

According to eyewitnesses, the blaze began at a tea stall and quickly spread to adjacent shops.

Ghatail Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M Abu Sayeed confirmed that the fire had caused losses estimated between Tk 40 lakh to Tk 50 lakh.

No casualties have been reported.
