Housewife succumbs to burn injuries at CMCH

CHATTOGRAM, April 1, 2025 (BSS) - Urmi Akter, 26, a housewife succumbed to her injuries at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) last night after she received burn injuries at her home on Monday morning.

The victim is wife of Md Nayim Uddin of Khansama village in Chatori union under Anowara upazila of the district, CMCH and police sources said.

Sources said Urmi received severe burn injuries when her saree suddenly caught fire while cooking at around 11am on Monday, in the morning of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Hearing her screaming, family members and neighbors doused the fire and rescued her, but by that time major portion of her body was burned badly.

She was rushed to the CMCH in a critical condition. Physicians at CMCH burn unit said the woman succumbed to her injuries as 80 percent of her body was burned in the fire incident.
