Missing teenager’s body recovered from Teesta in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 2, 2025 (BSS) - The fire service and civil defense divers have recovered the body of a fourteen-year old Jim Hossain, who went missing while swimming in the river Teesta in Kawnia upazila of Rangpur.

“The body was recovered from the Teesta river road bridge area at around 6:30 pm on Tuesday, about two hours after he went missing,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kawnia police station Md Abdul Latif told BSS this afternoon.

Jim Hossain is the son of Javed Ali of the Railway Station Colony area of Rangpur metropolis. He went to visit the Teesta Rail Bridge area with his friends to share the joy of Eid around 4 pm on Tuesday.

He went missing while swimming in the water under the Teesta Road Bridge area. When Jim's friends shouted about the incident, people around came running.

“After receiving the news that the teenager had gone missing while swimming in the river, Kawnia Thana police and divers from the Kawnia Fire Service and Civil Defense Station rushed there and launched a rescue operation,” the OC said.

After about two hours of rescue operation, Jim's body was recovered at 6:30 pm. The body was handed over to the family after completing the legal process.
