According to the Department of Livestock Services (DoLS) in Khulna Division, among the sacrificed animals, 2,73,057 were cows and buffaloes, 5,31,148 were goats and sheep, and 19 were other animals.

In district-wise figures: 1,28,711 animals were sacrificed in Khulna, 61,316 in Bagerhat, 82,675 in Satkhira, 94,747 in Jashore, 93,726 in Jhenidah, 53,617 in Magura, 28,314 in Narail, 96,946 in Kushtia, 84,835 in Chuadanga, and 79,337 in Meherpur.

Khulna district recorded the highest number of sacrificial animals, while Narail reported the lowest.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,64,494 sacrificial animals were sold through online platforms.

Dr Nurullah Md. Ahsan, Director of DoLS in Khulna division, told BSS that DoLS workers provided 1,797 services during Eid-ul-Azha, including health examinations of 441 sacrificial animals at cattle markets.

According to the department, 2,42,465 sacrificial animals remained unsold this year.

The department attributed this to the high production of sacrificial animals, noting that it is not unusual for some animals to remain unsold. These animals, it added, will be required for various rituals and ceremonies in the coming days.

The DoLS reported that this year over 14.35 lakh sacrificial animals were reared in the Khulna division, against a demand of 10.47 lakh for Eid-ul-Azha.
