CHANDPUR, June 17, 2025 (BSS) - The Roads and Highways Department today demolished nearly three hundred illegal structures built on both sides of the Chandpur-Cumilla regional road.

The eviction drive was conducted by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nigar Sultana and Executive Magistrate Nirupam Majumdar in Uaruk Bazar area of Sadar upazila from morning to afternoon.

A large number of police and army personnel were deployed to maintain law and order.

UNO Nigar Sultana said that some people have been occupying the land of the Roads and Highways Department and constructing permanent buildings and running businesses.

They have not removed the structures despite repeated requests. Therefore, government property is being restored to ease traffic congestion and facilitate public movement, she said.

A total of about 500 illegal structures will be demolished in the Shahrasti Gate and Kaliapara areas of the upazila.
