3 killed in Gazipur bus-CNG collision

GAZIPUR, June 17, 2025 (BSS) - Three people, including a mother and her young son, were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Kishoreganj regional highway in the district this afternoon.

The deceased were Ratna Akhtar, 32, of Anwarpur Kazla village in Tarail upazila, her four-year-old son Sayan and Taufidul Islam, 14, son of Abul Kalam of Kishtupur village under Itna police station, Kishoreganj. All the victims were passengers of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw. 

According to eyewitnesses, the CNG auto-rickshaw was struck head-on by a Dhaka-origin Ananya Classic Paribahan passenger bus in the Surza Narayanpur Palli Bidyut area of Kapasia upazila in the district, leaving 
two dead on the spot. Another succumbed to injuries on the way to Dhaka for treatment.

Three others were injured in the collision, including the CNG driver and two other passengers. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Kapasia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Joynal Abedin Mondal confirmed the incident, stating that the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Kapasia Upazila Health Complex.
 
The bus driver fled the scene, he said.
