KHULNA, June 18, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator and Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Firoz Sarkar directed KCC officials and staff to take immediate steps to identify the causes of waterlogging and ensure swift drainage from low-lying areas of the city.

His directives came on Tuesday afternoon during a visit to Ward No. 31, where waterlogging has become a pressing concern following complaints from residents.

According to KCC sources, the ongoing Khulna Shipyard road widening project, being implemented by the Khulna Development Authority (KDA), is facing delays, which are contributing to the waterlogging.

Several dams constructed as part of the project are obstructing natural water flow. These include a dam at the mouth of the Matiakhali Canal for a planned sluice gate, another on the Mayur River near Nirala No. 1 Road and additional dams on the Bastuhara and Deyana Chowdhury canals for the Bastuhara-Arongghata Road project.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the situation, the KCC administrator instructed officials to urgently send a letter to the KDA, urging the installation of proper drainage systems within these dam structures to alleviate the problem.

KCC's Chief Engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan, Chief Garbage Management Officer and Executive Magistrate Kohinur Zahan, Executive Engineer Sheikh Md Masud Karim, Conservancy OIfficer Waheduzzaman Khan, Acting in-Charge officer of ward no-31 Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, among others, were present.
