Man gets death for raping stepdaughter in Keraniganj

DHAKA, June 18, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today convicted and sentenced one Md Motahar to death for raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter in 2021 in Keraniganj.

Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 pronounced the judgment in the presence of the convict and sent him back to jail with a conviction warrant.

Md Motahar, 41, is the son of the late Rifaj Miah. He originally hailed from the village of Kurahar under Atmul union under Shibganj Police Station in Bogura.

According to the case documents, Motahar used to harass the girl right after marrying her mother. On the night of June 20, 2021, Motahar raped the girl and threatened her if she revealed it to anyone, he will kill her. Motahar again raped her on September 22 and this time she told her mother about her ordeal.

The victim's mother filed the case with the South Keraniganj Police Station on September 24, 2021. Police arrested Motahar and he confessed to his crimes before a court. Police later filed the charge sheet against him. 

The court today came up with the judgment after examining a total of eight witnesses on different hearing dates.
