Anti-tobacco training workshop held in Cumilla

CUMILLA, June 19, 2025 (BSS)- An anti-tobacco training workshop was held in 
the district today under the "Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) 
Act" which aims to reduce tobacco use and its negative health impacts. 

The workshop was organised by the district administration on Thursday morning 
at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner. 

ATM Saiful Islam, additional secretary of the Public Health and Law Division, 
addressed the programme as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Md. 
Amirul Kaysar in the chair.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Pankaj Barua, Additional District 
Magistrate Mahfuza Matin, District Civil Surgeon Ali Nur Mohammad Bashir 
Ahmed and Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shamim Quddus Bhuiyan 
addressed the event as special guests.

In addition, officials and employees of various government departments, 
representatives of educational institutions, NGO representatives, journalists 
and people from different professions participated in the workshop.

The speakers at the workshop highlighted the serious health risks associated 
with tobacco use and emphasized the importance of increasing public awareness 
controlling smoking and tobacco products.

The district administration said that such training workshops and promotional 
activities will continue to prevent the harmful effects of tobacco in 
building a healthy society.
