Sheikh Jewel died of chest pain: Police claims

CUMILLA, June 20, 2025 (BSS)- Police today claimed that arrested drug trader Sheikh Jewel (45) died of chest pain at a local health complex last night.

SP of Cumilla in a statement said, Sheikh Jewel was admitted to Muradnagar Upazila Health Complex as he suffered a chest pain after arrest with four others with yaba from one Helal’s house at Uttarpara of Bangra police station last night.

The SP said Sheikh Jewel was admitted to the hospital immediately after the complain of chest pain at about 8 pm. in police custody.

Doctor on duty at the health complex declared him dead at about 8:50pm, the SP said.

According to his family, the SP said, Sheikh Jewel has been suffering from cardiac problem since long, and had a history of suffering from another cardiac arrest before.

The report of a section of media on Jewel’s death in police torture is baseless and false, the SP claimed.

The SP said postmortem of the deceased has been done and the report will reveal the actual cause of his death. 

He requested all to refrain from publishing any news until the postmortem report come to light.

Four other persons who were arrested by police along with Sheikh Jewel are Helal (41), Sharmin alias Sakhina (35), Hannan (21) and Khokon (45), he said.

Police filed a case against the arrested persons under the Narcotics Control Act 2018 for keeping illegal drugs in their possession.
