Second victim dies among four burnt in Lakshmipur gas cylinder blast

LAKSHMIPUR, Aug 12, 2025 (BSS) - Another victim of a gas cylinder explosion on a boat in Ramgati upazila has died, raising the death toll in the incident to two.

Fisherman Faruk Hossain, 40, passed away early Tuesday while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed Officer-in-Charge of Ramgati Police Station Md. Kabir Hossain this morning.

Faruk Hossain was the son of Badsha Howlader, a resident of Shariatpur district. He had been receiving treatment for the past five days. Two other victims remain in critical condition.

The other burn victims are Abul Khair, 32, and Gani Khan, 50.

The incident occurred last Thursday when six fishermen were cooking on a boat near the fish landing centre in Ramgati. Suddenly, a gas cylinder exploded, burning all six fishermen.

They were initially rescued and admitted to Ramgati Upazila Health Complex. Four of them were later transferred to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery due to worsening conditions.

Among them, Amjad Hossain died during treatment on Saturday night.
