Oraon community celebrates traditional Karam Puja in Thakurgaon

THAKURGAON, Sept 18, 2025, (BSS) – Karam Puja, main religious festival of Oraon community, was celebrated in the district with religious fervour and traditional enthusiasm.

Various rites  including playing of drums, traditional dance and songs performance were held on the occasion.

The community has been celebrating this festival every year from the first day of Bengali month of Ashwin to third day of Ashwin for ages.

Karam is the name of a tree. Members of Oraon ethnic group consider the tree to be sacred and a symbol of good fortune. 

Like every year, the Karam Puja and Social Festival Committee organized this event at Oraon Para of Salandar Panchpir Danga under Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila on Wednesday (September 17) night and Thursday .

Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khairul Islam joined the festival as the chief guest.
