Two killed in separate road accidents in Lakshmipur

LAKSHMIPUR, Sept 19, 2025 (BSS) – Two people, including a four-year-old child, were killed in separate road accidents in Chandraganj and Ramgati upazilas in the district today. 

The deceased were identified as Tahiya Sultana, 4, daughter of Md. Sohel of Charshahi village under Sadar upazila, and Chamia Akhter, 25, daughter of Ripon Hossain of Tumchar village under Ramgati upazila. 

According to police and eyewitnesses, a tragic accident occurred in Chandraganj Bazar area when a covered van ran over the child, Tahiya Sultana, in front of the Raj Mukut Community Center.

The child had accompanied her family to the community center for a wedding invitation and was playing near the road when she was hit by a covered van heading towards Lakshmipur from Noakhali. She died on the spot. 

Chandraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Faizul Amin Noman confirmed the incident, stating that the driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. The covered van has been seized, and preparations are underway to file a case, he added. 

In a separate incident this evening, Chamia Akhter was killed following a head-on collision between two CNG-run auto-rickshaws in the Nur Patwari Hat North Hanif Road area, near the Ramgati-Hatia border. 

Ramgati Police Station OC Md. Kabir Hossain confirmed that Chamia died on the spot.
