Two killed in Kushtia lightning strikes

KUSHTIA, Sept 20, 2025 (BSS) - Two people, including a student, were killed 
in separate lightning strikes at Daulatpur upazila of the district this 
afternoon.
 
The deceased were Saif Hossain Toha, 10, a fourth-grade student and son of 
Palash Mandal of Shitlaipara village under Rifaetpur union of the upazila and 
Jamat Ali, 25, son of late Matiur Rahman of Bilgathua village under Pragpur 
union of the upazila.

Lightning followed by a rainstorm hit Toha this afternoon when he was fishing 
in a pond near his house at Shitlaipara village.
 
Toha was taken to Daulatpur Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him 
dead.
 
In another incident, lightning struck two people at Bilgathia village while 
they were sitting beside their houses. After the incident farmer Jamat Ali 
and Maqbul Hossain were taken to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex where the 
on-duty doctor declared Jamat Ali dead, said Family Planning Officer Dr 
Tuhin.

Maqbul Hossain was injured in the same incident and is undergoing treatment.

Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Solaiman Sheikh confirmed the 
matters.
