School girl dies from snakebite in Kurigram

KURIGRAM, Sept 20, 2025 (BSS) – An eighth grade student died after bitten by a venomous snake in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram district in the early hours of today.

The dead was identified as Lima Akhter, daughter of Abdul Latif of Bhangamor union. She was a student of Nagarajpur High School.

According to locals, the incident took place on Friday night when Lima went to give her father a gaslight. 
 She was bitten by a venomous snake, locally known as Gorash, during the incident.

Family members and neighbours rushed her to Kurigram General Hospital around 3:30am. However, due to the unavailability of antivenom   facility, she was referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. But Lima succumbed to   bite injuries on the way at around 7:30am today.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Phulbari Police Station Shawkat Ali Sarkar confirmed the incident.
