PATUAKHALI, Sept 20, 2025 (BSS) – One more body of dolphin was recovered from Kuakata sea-beach here today.

“A 12-feet-long dolphin of the Irrawaddy species was washed up . . . It has wounds on its head and body in various places and its skin has been peeled off also,” said the officials concerned today.

“It is believed that the dolphin was washed up in the morning tide,” KM Bachchu, convener of the Coastal Environment Protection Movement (Upra), told BSS today. 

He said Irrawaddy dolphins are usually found in the coastal rivers of Southeast Asia and the Bay of Bengal.

However, the locals first saw the dead dolphin in the Gangamati 33 Kani area of the beach this afternoon and informed the Coastal Environment Protection Movement (Upra) Dolphin Protection Committee.

Subsequently, the Forest Department and Dolphin Protection Committee members rushed to the spot and buried the dolphin.

Earlier, two more dead dolphins were found on Char Gangamati on September 4 and Mirabari Block Point on August 31.
 So far a total of 10 dead dolphins have washed up on the Kuakata coast this year. 

Earlier, 10 dead dolphins were found in 2024 and 15 in 2023.
