Restaurant fined Tk 50,000 in Magura

MAGURA, Sept 21, 2025 (BSS) - The National Consumer Rights Protection Department in a drive fined 'Sonar Bangla Hotel' Taka 50,000 in Bhaina crossing area of Sadar upazila for preparing and storing food in unhygienic conditions today.

The drive, conducted from 12:30 pm to 2 pm, inspected various daily necessities shops including hotels, grocery stores. 

During the inspection, various irregularities were found at Sonar Bangla Hotel. The kitchen was damp and dirty, the employees were not following hygiene rules, and food was kept open on the floor. 

Despite previous instructions from the Consumer Rights and Food Safety Authority, there has been no improvement in the hotel's hygiene. 

Hotel owner Md. Wazir Biswas was fined Taka 50,000 under Section 43 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009.

The operation was conducted by Sajal Ahmed, Assistant Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, Magura District Office. 

District Food Safety Officer Suman Adhikari was present during the drive.

Such drive by the Department of Consumer Rights Protection will continue in future.
