Body of youth recovered from fishing net in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, Sept 21, 2025 (BSS) - Police today recovered the body of a young man, Mahfuz Sheikh (32), from a fishing net in a fish enclosure (gher) in the Udaypur Aruakandi area of Mollahat upazila here in the district.

Mahfuz, a farmer by profession, was the son of Ali Mia Sheikh, a resident of the same area.

According to family members and local sources, Mahfuz went to work at a fish gher in the morning. When he did not return for a long time, relatives and locals went to the spot and found him entangled in a fishing net inside the gher. He was immediately taken to Mollahat Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Relatives reported that there were injury marks and signs of skin peeling on various parts of his body.

On information, police recovered the body and brought it to Mollahat Police Station.

Mollahat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Fazlul Haque said, "The body has been sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report. We are investigating whether this was an accident or if foul play was involved."
