RANGPUR, March 19, 2026 (BSS) - With only one day left for Eid-ul-Fitr,
shopping malls, markets, complexes and sidewalk shops in Rangpur city are
overflowing with crowds and record sales of lifestyle goods and cosmetics are
being achieved.
Traders at various shopping malls, markets, complexes, sidewalk shops and
temporary markets told BSS that sales of Eid goods have already surpassed all
previous records and it has become very difficult to handle the increasing
number of shoppers rushing to the last minute.
Shoppers are rushing to buy a variety of clothing and other Eid items, shoes,
cosmetics, bangles, and imitation jewelry, putting immense pressure on the
limited number of salespeople in shopping centers and businesses.
Alongside the unprecedented rush of wealthy shoppers to shopping malls,
markets, and commercial areas, as the last-minute shopping frenzy reaches its
peak, lower and middle-class people are flocking to ordinary markets and
sidewalk shops in droves.
The huge crowd of shoppers of all ages has caused severe traffic congestion
on the city's main roads and bypass roads, and law enforcement agencies are
facing difficulties in controlling traffic during this last-minute Eid
shopping spree.
It has now become very difficult for shoppers to go shopping for Eid at the
city's RAMC Market, Royalty Mega Mall, Rangpur Supermarket, 'Rangon', Golden
Tower, Zilla Parishad Shopping Mall, Shah Amanat Market, Jahaj Company
Shopping Complex, Maya Exclusive Fashion House, 'Karupannya', City Plaza,
Moti Plaza, Hanumantola Market, Adi Janata, Bismillah Garments, Nawabganj
Bazaar and other elite markets and shopping places.
At these last moments, business is booming in the city's colorfully lit
shopping malls, supermarkets, shopping centers, and department stores for the
wealthy, as well as in sidewalk shops for low-income people.
At the same time, many floating hawkers are seen busy in selling various
types of clothes and other Eid items at their temporary mobile shops and
stalls set up on the major roads of the city.
Many mobile hawkers and seasonal traders are selling various types of clothes
and other Eid items at fair prices to a large crowd of lower and middle-class
people from their mobile rickshaw-vans and sidewalk shops.
Hawkers have arranged stalls of various types of clothes, sandals, shoes,
pants-shirts, three-pieces, sarees, lungis, Punjabis, children's clothes,
hats, and perfumes on both sides of the road from the Lalbag to the Kachari
Bazar areas in the city.
Not only on that road, but also in the footpath-centric shops in various
areas of the city including Shapla Square, Grand Hotel, Supermarket and
Medical Mour, Hareepatti Road, Badarganj Road, CO Bazar and Station Road,
there is a huge sale of Eid items.
"Despite the massive sales of Eid clothes and other items over the past two
weeks, shoppers are flocking to the markets day and night to buy other items
in the last-minute rush," said Emdadul Hossain Emdad, president of the
Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He also said that due to increasing income and continuous improvement in the
socio-economic condition of the people, they are flocking to the markets and
buying clothes in droves.
Traders in various markets, shopping malls, department stores and sidewalk
stalls are also expressing joy over the huge sales of Eid goods this year.
Police control room sources said that ample members of law enforcement
agencies have been deployed to strengthen security measures for smooth
marketing of buyers, as well as special traffic arrangements have been
introduced in the city.
On Thursday, at all city markets and shopping centers, each piece of Jamdani
sarees is being sold between Taka 11,000 and Taka 45,000, three-pieces
between Taka 2,500 to 35,000, cargo jeans pants, formal T- Shirts between
Taka 1,500 to Taka 15,000, children's lehenga, masakkali, single top, topset,
genji sets between Taka 2,000 and Taka 120,000, Punjabis between Taka 1,500
and Taka 20,000 and attractive Sherwani between Taka 12,000 to Taka 50,000.
Talking to BSS at Rangpur Super Market, university students Aklim Khatun and
Fatematuz Johra said that they already completed their Eid shopping. Prices
of clothes and cosmetics are higher this year compared to last year.
