Cyclist killed in Dinajpur road accident

DINAJPUR, April 21, 2026 (BSS) - A cyclist was killed after being struck by a truck on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway in Sadar upazila on this afternoon.
 
The deceased was identified as Shakil Hossain, 18, son of Md. Anwar Hossain, a resident of Ranipur village in Shashra union of the upazila.
 
He was returning home by bicycle after completing training at a youth development centre when the accident occurred at Bhabainagar around 4:00 pm.
 
According to police and eyewitness, a truck hit Shakil from behind on the busy road, leaving him crushed under the vehicle and killing him instantly.
 
Officer-in-Charge of Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station Md. Nurnabi confirmed the matter and said local residents detained the truck and its assistant, Babul Islam, 25, at the scene. However, the truck driver managed to flee.
 
Police said legal procedures are underway and the seized vehicle and detained assistant are in custody.
