Three die as nor’wester sweeps Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, April 27, 2026 (BSS) – A severe nor’wester that swept in the early hours of today killed a mother and her two daughters in Melandah Upazila of the district.

The victims were identified as Khuki Begum 65, wife of late Gain Mondal, and her daughters Fatema Aktar, 40, and Farida Aktar,  37. They were residents of Dagi village under Melandah Upazila.

Sub-Inspector Humayun Kabir of Melandah Police Station said the victims were sleeping when a large mahogany tree beside their house was uprooted by the nor’wester and fell on their home at around 5:30 am. They died on the spot.

On information, Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.
