Boats with VGF-rice sink in Brahmaputra at Fulchhari

GAIBANDHA, May 21, 2026 (BSS)- Two boats that were carrying sacks of rice sank in the Brahmaputra river due to sudden storm this morning.

Local sources said two engine-driven boats loaded with sacks of VGF rice were going to Erendabari Fulchhari upazila from Balashighat of Kanchipara of same upazila this morning.

Additional upazila controller of food Matiar Rahman said 467 sacks of rice were delivered from the godown on Wednesday to take it to Erendabari union. 

When the rice laden boats were crossing the river a sudden gusty wind swept the area, singking the boats, he added. 

Being informed civil defense personnel rushed to the spot but all rice bags sank in the deep water by this time. 

No casualties were reported.
